Abstract
This study assessed the effect of the explicitness of different response criteria referred to achievement or referred to the preferences of others individuals on interactive styles in a simulated risk-taking situation. The study used a within-subject design in which 12 college students participated. Participants were exposed to three phases under conditions of open contingencies, in which no specific response criteria were presented; and closed contingencies, in which participants received information on: a) achievement criteria for obtaining points (Group 1); b) the preference of other individuals to bet in the conservative component (Group 2); c) the preference of other individuals for betting on the risk-taking option. It was found that, under open contingencies, most participants showed individual and idiosyncratic styles of behavior; while under closed contingencies, most individuals adjusted to the requirement that operated in their group, with a higher effect in Groups 2 and 3. The results discuss the modulation of interactive styles and the implication of prescribing criteria that involves other individuals participating under a similar contingency.
